New Delhi: Lieutenant Basic Asim Munir to be the brand new Military Chief of Pakistan. He was the previous Director-Basic of the Inter-Providers Intelligence of Pakistan. He has succeeded Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as the military chief.
After speculations and predictions circling the announcement of a brand new military chief, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif selected Lt Gen Asim Munir for the position on Thursday. In the meantime, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza would be the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Employees Committee (CJCSC).
This may give rise to a political tussle within the nation as former PM Imran Khan was the one who prolonged Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure which was to finish again in 2019. Gen Bajwa began his farewell visits to formations on November 1. The appointment of the brand new military chief could be a brand new chapter within the ongoing political disaster in Pakistan. Lt Gen Asim Munir is understood to be a detailed aide of Gen Bajwa after he commanded troops within the Power Command Northern Areas as a brigadier when Gen Bajwa was then Commander X Corps. Lt Gen Munir was appointed Army Intelligence director basic in 2017 and was made the Inter-Providers Intelligence chief in 2018. He was changed from the position after eight months after the insistence of former PM Imran Khan.
